How did you meet?
We met at work, he was meant to be supporting me as I was new to the role, I thought the bottle of prosecco in the park with plastic cups after work was all part of the induction!
How did he propose?
He caught me completely by surprise when we were at home looking for his car tax paperwork, he had the ring hidden in a gift box in a cupboard. It was 4th November so we then went out to watch the fireworks at Nottingham Castle. It was perfect, we kept it a secret for a full 12 hours before I caved and told my Mum. I’m really glad we had that special time in our own little bubble before the madness of planning began.
How long were you engaged?
11 months
How many dresses did you try/boutiques did you visit?
I visited 4 shops and tried on about 12 dresses
How did you know when you found the one?
My Mum’s face! And I felt like an absolute princess (I think my face was probably also a giveaway). My favourite part of the dress was the sparkles! And it was so effortless to wear, I didn’t want a dress I’d be worrying about all day.
What accessories did you wear and where were they from?
I wore the headband that my Mum wore for her wedding, it matched the dress perfectly! I also wore a faux fur stole from a website called Light In The Box. Jewellery wise I kept it simple, I wore my Great Nanna’s ring and some gorgeous diamond earrings that Jake and I had made to match my engagement ring, they were from a shop in the diamond quarter in Birmingham.
What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?
My Mum and sister made me a beautiful box full of treats, each labelled with a sign to show which something it was. My something old was my Great Nanna’s ring, my something new was my garter, my something borrowed was my Nanna’s locket which I wrapped around my bouquet and my something blue was an embroidered handkerchief made out of Nottingham lace. They also gave me a silver sixpence which of course went in my shoe.
What did the Groom wear?
Jake went for tweed in the day in a jacket and waistcoat from Moss Bros and navy chinos from Gap, worn with a white All Saints shirt and a pair of Barker shoes. It was the perfect relaxed but smart look that suited our venue brilliantly. We decided that we wanted a more relaxed day but then a more formal evening do as we had the same group of guests throughout the whole day so for dinner Jake (and some of the other guests) changed into Black Tie. He wore a tuxedo from Next in a midnight blue.
Who was your Bridesmaid and what did she wear?
My bridesmaid was my beautiful sister. She wore a floor length cerise Coast dress with a low back and a ribbon around her waist to match the ribbons on the bouquets. She looked absolutely stunning!
What did the Mother of the Bride wear?
Mum stole the show in a champagne knee length dress from Head in the Crowd in Mapperley. She also changed for dinner into a floor length bottle green ballgown from Phase Eight.
Where did you tie the knot?
We tied the knot at the stunning Langar Hall in Langar. We had a really intimate day with only 44 guests.
We stayed at Langar Hall all day, the space was brilliant and allowed people to move between rooms to help with the flow of the day.
How did you feel when you saw your Partner at the top of the aisle?
I couldn’t get to him quick enough! I think I sprinted up the aisle. He looked incredible and I couldn’t wait to marry him.
How did your Partner react when he first saw you?
He took my hand, kissed me on the cheek and told me I looked stunning.
What made you choose your venue?
The food! Jake used to be a chef so the menu was really important to him. Langar Hall did not disappoint! We had a starter of crab ravioli, a main of beef wellington and a pina colada desert! Langar Hall was also the perfect size for the number of people we had and we loved the character of the place.
What was your wedding theme and how did you create it?
We got married in October so the theme was loosely Autumn. We had lots of deep reds which started with our invites (made my the wonderful Nicola at Rose Press) and flowed through to our place cards, flowers, petal confetti and even my shoes. We brought our wellies and ventured outside for photos and collected leaves in the run up to the day which we used on tables.
What was your evening entertainment?
Well, we might have gotten a bit carried away. We had a magician (Magic Duncan) straight after the ceremony which helped keep people entertained through all of the picture taking. After the Wedding Breakfast we then had a brilliant swing band (Swingologie), a casino (Winwin Casino hire) and FIREWORKS (organised by my wonderful Mum). It was all absolutely perfect and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
What was our first dance?
Love you I do from Dreamgirls.
What was the highlight?
Oooh that’s a tough one! I think it would have to be marrying the most incredible man surrounded by our beautiful friends and family.
Describe your wedding in one word: Perfect
What was your best buy?
We were running around two days before trying to find something to put cards in, we found a metal trunk that had been reduced in John Lewis which was perfect. It now has pride of place next to our fireplace.
What is your saving tip?
I’m not sure I am very qualified to answer this one, I got a bit carried away but I would say that keeping the numbers down to a small, intimate group definitely helped.
What advice would you give a future bride?
Everyone had said to me that the day would go by in a blur, I was really worried about this as I wanted to enjoy every minute. My Mum told me to live in the moment and enjoy everything as it was happening without worrying about what was meant to happen next. My boss also told me to take a moment with my new husband once the party was in full swing and to stand back and just watch everyone enjoying themselves and spend a few minutes just the two of you. I took on board both pieces of advice and I would definitely pass them on to any future brides.
